It is a laptop, not a pogo stick!
Monday, June 11, 2007

Here we have one of our technicians (Jake) losing his temper and smashing a laptop with one, powerful karate chop.
Ok, not really.
This 600m was dropped off by one of our local customers. We’re still not sure why but she said she had dropped it (maybe she just wanted her laptop to make our blog! =). We checked the unit out and absolutely everything was damaged beyond repair. There were footprints on the screen and someone had spent a good amount of time jumping up and down on it. The hard drive was actually warped!

Does your laptop have a hairball?

Many laptops have a fan susceptible to accumulating a layer of gunk on them. When this happens the laptop will run hot and often shut itself off to keep itself from frying. If one continues to use their laptop when it is overheating they can fry the motherboard.
Fortunately, this particular laptop made it in for repair before it completely died. The fan (and the rest of the laptop) had an enormous amount of cat hair inside. Here is a picture of the fan, which was unable to spin until the hairball was removed.
