Dell Inspiron 1150 FIXED!

Another Dell Inspiron 1150 problem... Fixed!

Shut down problem, fixed!
Power jack problem, fixed!
Power problem, fixed!

Lately we've been getting in one of these for repair almost daily. The motherboards seem to be plagued with issues. They're a very hot running machine as well, which never helps.

Shut down problems:
- Some Inspiron 1150 laptops shut down when moved. This is caused by loose components on the motherboard. We typically can repair this issue for $149 (more info).

- Some shut down after a certain amount of time. This is due to them overheating. Keeping a can of compressed air around helps a LOT if you clean out the fan area every couple months. Most people do not do this- maybe computer manufacturers should make it a little more clear. When we get in an overheating machine, we take it apart, clean it thoroughly, apply new heat transfer paste, clean out the fans and air passages and button it back up. For this service we typically charge around $90.

Power jack repairs:
Some model Dells (1150, 5150, 600m, etc.) have very special jacks with internal connections, making them a bit complicated to replace. We have developed a solution for this repair which is usually $149. Go here for full details on our Inspiron repair services.

Some 1150 units come in and can't be fixed without replacing parts. Some of them do nothing at all or the power issues have created more problems w/ the board. When this happens we offer repair options, usually around $399 - $499, but always cheaper than Dell's pricing. We also pruchase laptops that customers decide not to invest in.

Dell XPS Gen2 LCD

A Dell XPS Gen2 (Generation 2) laptop came in for repair recently. This was surprisingly lightweight for the size of the machine. There was not a whole lot wrong with the machine- it had been dropped and the LCD was cracked.

Due to the machine being fairly new, replacement parts are still fairly hard to find and pricey, however we were still able to beat Dell's price and get the unit back to the owner in a reasonable amount of time. While it was in, we bumped the memory to 2GB.

As seen in the pic above, the machine has some neat lighting. We cleaned out the vents so the light could shine through properly. That, a new LCD and a memory upgrade and the unit is ready to rock n roll!

Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100 Class Action Lawsuit

Well this is odd. Browsing around on wired.com earlier, we actually clicked on an ad. Even more odd than that is the ad. It is for a class action lawsuit against Toshiba. Apparently Satellite Pro 6100 owners have had some problems and are taking action against Toshiba.

FWIW, we have never seen any major issues w/ the 6100. IMHO, they're a better machine than the newer models. There could be issues out there that we're not aware of.

Full details are here: http://www.sp6100settlement.com.

If this goes through, I think Dell will FREAK OUT!!!
