Volunteering in Raleigh

Thinking about volunteering in Raleigh?

They had sent a nice letter here looking for what most non-profits are looking for, however, it was very nicely worded and we had to check out their website. We decided to mention it in our blog in an effort to send some extra traffic their direction.

It appears that they help people live as indepentently as possible as long as possible. There are some great stories about care givers and care receivers on the site as well.

There are plenty of other places to volunteer in Raleigh, NC as well, this is just one that we happened to mention.

Dell Dimension 8500 Data Recovery

A Dell Dimension 8500 desktop computer came in for data recovery this week. The computer had been acting funny so our customer decided to reinstall their operating system. During this process, their entire partition was accidentally wiped out.

The drive had contained family pictures and important documents.

We took it in for a free diagnostic. This also revealed that the hard drive was failing and had bad sectors. This made the recovery process more difficult.

Fortunately, we were able to recover some of their data. Using our tools we were able to bring back to life their “My Documents” folder where they had neatly organized all of their images, documents and more. At least 50% of the data was recovered.

As for the computer, a new 80GB Western Digital drive was installed that comes with a 3 year manufacturer’s warranty. We reinstalled their operating system, drivers, updates, antispyware and antivirus utilities. We put the retrieved data on to a DVD disc and back into the original folders and got it back out the door.

The recovery process can take days. This particular computer was here almost a week, but was well worth the wait.

The first (man made) qubyte

The first quantum byte, or qubyte, has been created.
